Season Preview and Sea Kings to Watch in 2014

2013 was another exceptional year for PVHS Track & Field.  Many varsity and frosh-soph school records were shattered and many individuals advanced deep into the post-season. The Sea Kings will be looking for more of the same success in 2014.

Distance superstar seniors Casey Celestin and Miles Irish will lead the way for the boys, and watch for a rising Sea King presence in the sprints as senior Zach Sledge looks to be a force in the 200m and 400m.  For the girls, senior Maile Davis returns for the PVHS Hurdle Nation as one of the top hurdlers in the Bay League, multi-event threat Cate Ryant will look to break through and prove she is one of the most talented track athletes PVHS has ever seen, and distance aces Cassidy Webber, Anna Pruter, and many others will continue PVHS' legendary reputation for girls distance running.

Both the boys and girls teams will be very dangerous dual meet matchups for anyone and look to finish among the top ten teams in CIF-SS Div. III, with numerous individuals realistically expecting to advance to CIF-SS Div. III Finals and beyond.   2014 will undoubtedly be an exciting and successful year for PVHS Track and Field, and we hope you will join us.

Key 2014 contributors are expected to include:

Casey Celestin (senior) -- 2013 Bay League second place and CIF-SS Div. III Finalist at 1600m.

Maile Davis (senior) -- 2011 Bay League Frosh-Soph Champion in 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles; 15th place Girls Heptathlon at USATF Junior Olympics National Championships, 2011; 2012 3rd Bay League and CIF qualifier, 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles; 2013 Bay League second place at 100m hurdles and third place at 300m hurdles.

Miles Irish (senior) -- 2011 Bay League Frosh-Soph Champion at 3200m, second place Bay League Frosh-Soph 1600m; 2013 third place Bay League 1600m.

Cate Ryant (senior) -- 2011 second place Bay League at frosh-soph 100m, long jump, and triple jump; member of girls varsity school record 4x100m relay team; 2012 2nd Bay League Girls Frosh-Soph long jump; 2013 second place long jump

Zach Sledge (senior) --  Joined PVHS Track & Field last year as a junior and was an instant impact athlete, qualifying for the league finals in the 200 meters.  Zach looks to be one of the league favorites as he steps up to the 400m this year.

Skylar Thiel (senior) -- 2012 Bay League 6th place and CIF at-large qualifier, 3200 meters.

Cassidy Webber (junior) -- 2012 Bay League 5th place and CIF at-large qualifier, 3200 meters; 2013 third place Bay League 3200 meters.
