Welcome to Palos Verdes High School. The 2010-11 school year will be the 9th since the campus reopened as a high school in 2002. Our school has grown in size and we are currently projecting approximately 1820 students. This is a belt tightening year with the California State budget woes. We are very fortunate to have our own very successful PTSA and Booster Club as well as a very supportive Peninsula Education Foundation. The goal is to ride out the tough times and continue to offer our students a great path to college and beyond as well as a very positive high school experience.

On the academic front we are still waiting for the test scores which will determine our school academic performance index. Our AP scores are up and we continue to be very proud of the college acceptances for our students. You can check out the College Career Center link for more specific information. Newsweek in June listed Palos Verdes High School as #26 in California and #239 nationally on its “best high schools” list. This ranking was based on AP test results. Our academic program grew very quickly and we are also very proud of the counseling and college career center services which have become so important for students who plan their path to college. We encourage parents to become very familiar with the services.

On the extra curricular front we will continue to offer a full program. We have an out standing Music Department and the marching band will grow to over 80 musicians. The jazz band and orchestra have been strong for years. For our dancers there is a choice between song, choreo and competition dance. Our competition academic programs are very successful and feature MUN, mock trial, science Olympiad, math club, academic decathlon and debate team. Our athletic program is consistently one of the stronger ones in the South Bay and beyond. We compete in the very competitive Bay League with West Torrance, Mira Costa, Redondo, Peninsula and Leuzinger. We offer every sport you can think of with the exception of wrestling.

Addressing facility upgrades has been a high priority for several years. Two new state of the art science classrooms will be opening this fall. Our stadium field will see new aluminum bleachers go in on both the home and visitor’s side and this project will begin after football season. With this added to the new pool and the synthetic field/all weather track, our athletic facilities are outstanding.

Palos Verdes High School has great school spirit and tremendous support from our parents. We are unique in that we have one booster club that addresses academics, the arts, and athletics. This keeps our parents and students involved in the whole school. We are very proud of the progress that has been made at PVHS. There is no turning back. Go Sea Kings!
